Educational Technology @ SASI

Educational Technology has come a long way at Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. since 1993 when the first Local Area Network was installed on campus.

Over $2 million was expended during the construction of the new facility to create an even more effective educational technology component for our students and staff. Our philosophy at SASI regarding educational technology is that it should be seen and utilized as yet another tool in the arsenal of our teachers and students.

We feel privileged to have, what we believe to be, the best technology in a K-12 facility in the entire four corners states. Some of the highlights include:

  • A 1 Gigabit per second redundant backbone for data, voice and video to each classroom.
  • Switched, 100 Mb/s to every connection.
  • 6 computers in every classroom with a minimum 1.0 Ghz processor and 128 Mb RAM.
  • Every Teacher is provided a laptop computer.
  • Networked Laser Printers in each classroom.
  • Telephone in every classroom.
  • An integrated video retrival system which utilizes the teacher's computers to schedule the delivery of cable TV, VHS tapes, or DVD media.
  • Video-On-Demand System
  • Voice over IP phones in all administrative areas.
  • SmartBoards in many classrooms and conference areas.
  • Wireless LAN coverage throughout the campus.
  • Web-based student assessment and student information systems.

To support the staff and students in maximizing the use of this technology, Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. operates a two member IT staff that is comprised of a Director of Information Technology and a Technology Specialist.
